Upper Wenatchee Forest Resilience Bond Project

The Upper Wenatchee Forest Resilience Bond (FRB) project is a joint effort lead by Chelan County Natural Resource Department to implement priority forest health and wildfire risk reduction treatments on Forest Service lands near the communities of Plain and Lake Wenatchee in western Chelan County. Through a Good Neighbor Authority Agreement, Chelan County and the USFS Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest are working together to increase the pace and scale of forest health restoration within the footprint of the Upper Wenatchee Pilot Project area following the completion of the NEPA process in 2023. This 5-year project includes forest health treatments across an estimated 5,200 acres as well as various stream restoration and aquatic organism passag elements. The project is funded through a variey of federal, state, and local sources, illustrating the committment across the board to creatively and collaboratively finance the effort to protect communities and restore wildfire resilience to forests that have become stressed and overstocked over time.

Chelan County Natural Resource Department has created a StoryMap to visually share progress with the communities and residents of Chelan County and beyond. The StoryMap will be updated annually to share upcoming workplans and track progress on completed units.
