Chumstick Highway Phase V, the road improvement project between Plain and Leavenworth, begins Monday, Aug. 7. Motorists are advised that two other road construction projects will be occurring in the Leavenworth area during the county's project. Read more to learn about traffic impacts.
Beginning Aug. 1, Chelan County Public Works will no longer be able to accept payments on permits and fees after 1 p.m. on Fridays. Payment will continue to be taken during regular hours Monday through Thursday and before 1 p.m. on Fridays.
Roadway striping plays a valuable role in efforts to keep travelers safe on the roadway. The Traffic Safety crew of Chelan County Public Works re-stripes more than 800 miles of county roads and intersections annually.
A long-time passion for big trucks steered Donna O’Brien to Chelan County Public Works 14 years ago. While O’Brien is not the first woman at Chelan County Public Works to command a Kenworth T800 dump truck, she currently is the only one and one of only a handful over the years.
The Cascade Orchard Bridge on Icicle Road in Leavenworth will be closed for a month beginning Tuesday, Sept. 6, as a contractor for Chelan County begins to repair the deck of the 57-year-old bridge. It is expected to be re-opened on Sept. 27.
Beginning Sept. 1, Chelan County Public Works will increase development fees that the department collects on permit applications and reviews of land use permits and road construction projects.
Chelan County Public Works and the City of Cashmere will host an open house on Aug. 30 for citizens interested in a $3 million improvement project to Goodwin and Sunset roads.
Eric Pierson, Chelan County Public Works director and county engineer, was recently named the 2022 County Engineer of the Year by the Washington State County Road Administration Board.
