Small Quantity Generator

Small Quantity Generator

The Chelan County Moderate Risk Waste Facility, 3612 Highway 97A near Wenatchee, is an option for businesses and organizations that generate hazardous waste in small quantities and need an option for recycling and disposing of the material safely.

Are You a Small Quantity Generator?

Qualifying businesses must be a Small Quantity Generator, or SQG, operating in Chelan County. An SQG is a business or organization, including churches, schools and nonprofits, that generates:

  • Less than 220 pounds of dangerous waste in any month (equivalent to roughly 25 gallons of typical liquid waste), or
  • Less than 2.2 pounds of certain kinds of highly toxic waste in any month, or
  • Accumulate less than 2,200 pounds of dangerous waste on site at any time.

Confused about whether you are an SQG?

Visit the Department of Ecology's Generator Category webpage for more information on determining generator categories, or to contact a dangerous waste inspector if needed.

Make an Appointment

Businesses can visit on an as-needed basis; however, they must make an appointment. We accept checks and debit or credit cards.

To make an appointment and get pricing details, call the facility at 667-5706 or email us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dangerous waste items contain one or more of the following properties: toxic, ignitable, corrosive or reactive. Look on the item's label for these words. Examples include antifreeze, automotive oil, cooking oil, gas and diesel, batteries, cleaners, and pool and spa chemicals.

Regular appointments can be scheduled as needed with our staff; however, businesses need to ensure they do not exceed the limits of a Small Quantity Generator.

Refer to Washington State Department of Ecology regulations WAC 173-303 for definitions of Small Quantity Generator and dangerous waste. Or visit Ecology's Generator Category website.

If you have information about the hazardous waste you are bringing to us, such as copies of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) or other manufacturer's information, bring it with you to your appointment.

Container sizes for disposal are limited to 5 gallons or smaller. In some cases, larger containers may be allowed. Please contact the facility for assistance in determining whether your item is allowable or to discuss alternative disposal methods. Remember, as a Small Quantity Generator, you are limited to the amount you can bring in a year.

Costs vary by the type and quantity of items to be disposed of. Once you have identified the items you want to bring, call (509-667-5706) or email us. Our staff will walk you through the process and provide a cost estimate for disposal. We accept debit and credit cards or checks for payment.
