Have you suffered property damages from the recent flooding, windstorm?

An online form is available on the Chelan County Emergency Management website to help residents report damage from the windstorm and flooding that occurred on our local river systems on Dec. 10.

The damage assessment form is for both residents ad businesses. It is available in English and Spanish and will remain open through Jan. 15.

The survey information gathered may help make the case for disaster recovery resources; however, it is not a guarantee that residents or businesses will receive recovery funds from FEMA. Reporting damage could help the county reach thresholds necessary for recovery funding and provide a better understanding of the damages throughout the county so we can continue recovery planning.

When reporting damages, it is vital that people thoroughly document damage to homes and property before cleaning up. Take lots of photos of the damage, prepare a comprehensive list of damages and save all receipts from repairs and clean-up.

In addition, residents may see county staff doing “windshield inspections.” This means staff is driving around the county, gathering data from their vehicles to better understand how the flooding and windstorm damaged the county. Staff will be in marked county vehicles and traveling in teams. Community Development is organizing the windshield inspections.

At this time, residents have the following options for getting rid of woody debris and household or commercial material destroyed by the flooding:

  • Woody debris from inside the Apple Maggot Quarantine Zone can be taken to Winton MFG Compost Works, 17400 Winton Road. The facility is open 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. It is accessible by crossing U.S. 2 at Coles Corner and continuing down Winton Road. The quarantine zone includes most of Leavenworth, Plain and Lake Wenatchee.
  • Woody debris from outside the apple Maggot Quarantine Zone can be taken to the Dryden Transfer Station’s drop-off brush yard. The facility is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Fees are on the county website.
  • The Dryden Transfer Station is also available for household and commercial items that were ruined by the flooding. Fees are on the county website.
  • Household hazard wastes should be taken to the Chelan County Moderate Risk Waste Facility, 3612 Highway 97A in Wenatchee. The facility is free to county residents and is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Businesses that qualify as small quantity generators should contact the facility at 509-667-5706 to set up an appointment.
  • A PDF list of restoration contractors and junk haulers is on the county’s website. The county does not endorse any specific private businesses and asks that people do their own research before selecting a private business.
