Application period opening June 1 for Tier 2, Tier 3 short-term rentals
Beginning on June 1, Chelan County Community Development will begin accepting applications for new short-term rentals looking to operate in areas of Chelan County that have not met the short-term rental cap.
The application period opens annually from June 1 through July 31 and applies to Tier 2 and Tier 3 short-term rentals. The application period does not apply to Tier 1 operations because those applications are accepted throughout the year by Community Development.
What is the difference between the tiers?
Tier 1: The short-term rental is owner-occupied and has an occupancy limit of no more than eight people. Caps do not apply to Tier 1 operations.
Tier 2: The short-term rental is nonowner-occupied and has an occupancy limit of no more than 12 people. Caps apply.
Tier 3: The short-term rental can be owner- or nonowner-occupied and has a limit of no more than 16 people. Caps apply.
If you are considering operating a Tier 2 or Tier 3 short-term rental in Chelan County, remember these details about the application process:
The application period is for operating in only 2024.
Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
No new applications are being taken in the 98826 zip code area of Chelan County (Leavenworth, Plain and Lake Wenatchee) or in the urban growth area of Peshastin. These areas are either over capacity or do not allow short-term rentals.
Applicants can start filling out their forms now; however, applications will not be accepted until June 1. If they are submitted early, they will be returned.
This application period is not for businesses currently permitted and operating. Renewals for 2024 open annually on Sept. 1 and close on Oct. 31.
Applications are on the Community Development STR website. To determine what areas of Chelan County have not met short-term rental caps, go to the STR Statistics webpage, which is updated monthly.
