Chelan County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan Update
The public is invited to review and comment on the Draft 2019 Chelan County Multijurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan update.
The 14-day comment period begins on Monday, June 17th and ends on July 1, 2019. A brief presentation of the draft plan will be held at the Chelan County Board of County Commissioner’s meeting on Monday June 24th at 11:00 am.
In response to federal mandates in the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, the process to update the plan began in 2018 with the formation of a planning partnership. This county-wide partnership helped to pool resources and create a county-wide hazard mitigation strategy. The process was led by Chelan County Natural Resources Department and funded by FEMA planning grants.
Planning Partners include Chelan County, Chelan County Flood Control Zone District, the cities of Wenatchee, Entiat, Leavenworth, Cashmere, and Chelan, Cascadia Conservation District, Lake Chelan Reclamation District, and Fire Districts 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9.
Public input was received throughout the planning process through a survey and public meetings held in October.
The plan is composed of two volumes. Volume 1 explains the planning process, describes the county-wide risk to hazards of concern, and discusses county-wide mitigation actions. Volume 2 contains annexes for each of the planning partners with specific risks and mitigation actions identified.
The plan can be downloaded at https://www.co.chelan.wa.us/natural-resources/pages/naturalhazard-mitigation-plan.
The public is encouraged to provide input on the draft plan. Please send any questions or comments about the plan to christina.wollman@perteet.com or call 509-619-7031. The comment period will be open until July 1, 2019.
