UPDATE: Squilchuck Road closure this week

A nearly half-mile stretch of Squilchuck Road that was closed May 22 so Chelan County Public Works crews could install a culvert will be reopened on May 23 to one-lane traffic.

The working area will be open to one-lane with flaggers controlling traffic. On Tuesday, motorists should expect to see up to 20-minute delays at times in the project area, which is from milepost 4.46 to 4.87, or from just above Wenatchee Heights Road to just below Lehman Road.

A detour around the work area, utilizing Halverson Canyon Road, has been cancelled.

Public Works personnel from the Wenatchee, Cashmere and Entiat road maintenance districts began working on the project this morning. They are installing a 780-foot long culvert that would be used to channel excess water in the event of a future landslide in the area. A precautionary measure, the culvert is buried along the western ditch line of the work area. Chelan County Public Works continues to monitor the unstable slopes in that area.

Crews are working as quickly as they can to complete the project and reopen the road to two lanes. Residents should watch the Chelan County Public Works Facebook page for updates on roadway plans for Wednesday, May 24.
