Repairs on Stemilt Creek Bridge No. 103 should not impact traffic

Repairs began Oct. 22 on Stemilt Creek Bridge No. 103, at upper Stemilt Creek Road. The work will take about 30 days and is not expected to impact traffic. People in the area may see an increase in truck traffic.

In 2019, a high-flow event in the Stemilt Creek basin scoured the channel and undercut both abutments at the bridge. (Scour is when the soil erodes around a bridge’s foundation.) The stream appears to have degraded several feet since the structure was built and multiple countermeasures have been used over the years to try to reduce scour.

A contractor will begin burying riprap and placing streambed material over the top to protect the bridge abutments. This is an interim solution until the bridge reaches the end of its service life, when it will be replaced. The project is funded jointly by Public Works and the Chelan County Flood Control Zone District.
