Public encouraged to comment on Chelan County’s plans for federal COVID recovery dollars
The Board of Chelan County Commissioners seeks input from the public for how it proposes investing $14.8 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding in county government and the community.
To review the county’s plans for the federal dollars, go to its ARPA webpage. There the community will be able to learn more about the county’s plans and funding guidelines. The public is also asked to participate in a survey, with comments due by June 24.
ARPA provides local governments resources to meet pandemic response needs and rebuild a stronger, more equitable economy as communities across the country continue to recover from the pandemic.
Chelan County commissioners have proposed four goals when determining how to spend the money:
Strengthening county services
Creating healthy communities
Caring for families
Supporting small agricultural businesses
Of the $14.8 million the county will receive, commissioners propose spending $10 million to replace revenues that were lost as a result of COVID-19 and invest in programs and infrastructure to better serve Chelan County citizens. The county also proposes investing $4 million into the community via grants to local nonprofits and agencies and small agricultural operations.
The county already has allocated $300,000 in ARPA funding to urgent county projects and $560,000 to the Chelan-Douglas Health District for capital projects and operations.
