Horse Lake Road in Wenatchee, which leads to the Horse Lake Reserve and trail system, has been closed early for the winter season.
Recent and forecasted rains have made the road slick in places and more susceptible to damage, so Chelan County Public Works has closed the gate at the bottom of Horse Lake Road.
Horse Lake Road is closed from Dec. 1 through April 1 every year because of concerns for protecting the dirt roadway. During the winter, the recurring periods of freezing and thawing can make dirt roads within the county soft and more likely to be damaged from vehicles. Roads also may need to be closed to protect wintering herds of mule deer. Weather conditions may prompt early or extended closures of the road.
Oklahoma Gulch Road near Entiat and Mountain Home Road in Leavenworth are scheduled to close on Dec. 1.
