Hearing examiner to review Helion’s proposed CUP on Oct. 1
An upcoming public hearing on a conditional use permit (CUP) application submitted by the Everett-based company Helion has been moved to a new location.
The hearing, which will be before the Chelan County hearing examiner, will be 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Confluence Technology Center, 285 Technology Center Way in Wenatchee.
People can either attend in person or via Zoom. Public comment will be taken at the hearing; people are asked to keep comments focused on the CUP application.
Earlier this summer, Helion submitted the CUP application for the construction of a high-impact utility facility. The property is located within the Rural Industrial zoning district in Malaga. Written public comments were taken until Sept. 4 by Chelan County Community Development.
On Oct. 1, the hearing examiner will review the CUP and the submitted comments. Visit the hearing examiner’s webpage as the hearing nears to download the meeting agenda and any additional information that may be available. The hearing examiner may decide on the CUP after the hearing; however, he may also choose to make the decision at a later date.
A conditional use permit, or a CUP, is a type of zoning permit that allows a specific use on a property. It is required when a specific use requires a higher level of review. In this case, the applicant is asking to build a high-impact utility facility for the generation of power through fusion; the generator building includes a small substation. Permitting on a generator building cannot be submitted until the CUP has been approved.
