County adds no parking signs to Day, Anderson Canyon roads

In response to recent parking issues at local trailheads, Chelan County Public Works installed no parking signs on Day Road in Wenatchee and Anderson Canyon Road near Peshastin.

Chelan County commissioners on May 11 passed separate resolutions allowing for the creation of the no parking areas on both roads.

On Day Road, the additional signage makes parking along the full length of the road illegal. Day Drive, which intersects with Day Road, is the site of a trailhead for the Sage Hills, managed by the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust. Parking is not allowed on Day Drive as well.

On Anderson Canyon Road, no parking signs were installed the full length of that roadway. Anderson Canyon Road leads to the popular trail at Sauer’s Mountain, a privately owned trailhead.

Both roads are narrow and do not accommodate parking safely. In the case of Day Road, it is also in a residential neighborhood. If ticketed for parking along a restricted county road, motorists will receive a $100 fine that increases to $150 if not paid within 15 days. When signed, it means there is no parking allowed on either side of the roadway, 24 hours a day.

The Chelan-Douglas Land Trust has reported the Wenatchee Foothills are attracting bigger-than-usual crowds this year, creating illegal parking and other problems. Parking lots at the trailheads are filling quickly and citations are being issued by the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

Public Works reminds citizens that it’s especially important to obey no parking signage so emergency responders have access along that road.
