Chelan County calls on community to vote for Deputy Jacob Lewis

Corrections Deputy Jacob Lewis has been nominated for a professional award for his efforts in building the K-9 narcotics detection program at the Chelan County Regional Justice Center.

Now it’s up to the community to help Lewis become a finalist.

The community can vote for Lewis, who has been nominated for a 2021 RISE Award, until Sept. 17. People can vote once a day online here.

Deputy Lewis was nominated for the award for showing exemplary service in his field. Lewis is the handler of K-9 Kait, the narcotics detection dog used at the justice center.

The Chelan County Regional Justice Center is one of only a handful of jails in the state that have a narcotics detection dog program. Outside the jail, the pair have attended many community events to not only educate the public about the K-9 program but also raise the money for the community-supported position.

“(Deputy Lewis) has painted a new look on what the correctional/pre-sentencing facility is in the local area,” states his nomination.

After voting is completed, the top 10 finalists with the most votes will then be reviewed by a panel of judges. Winners will receive an all-expense paid trip to the Axon Accelerate professional conference in November in Phoenix. Axon’s RISE Awards showcase the extraordinary courage, compassion and dedication to community demonstrated by officers and agencies across the country.
