Deputies Rescue Kayaker in Distress on Roses Lake

On April 7, 2026, at approximately 8:22 a.m., RiverCom dispatch received reports of a kayaker in distress on Roses Lake near Manson, Washington. Callers reported a male in his 60s yelling for help from approximately 600 meters offshore in extremely windy conditions. Witnesses indicated the kayak may have overturned, and no other boats were present on the water.

Deputies Chris Eakle and Aaron Seabright responded immediately, coordinating their approach while simultaneously requesting fire and EMS resources. Upon arrival, deputies quickly located the victim in the water near the north end of the lake, partially obscured by cattails.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation and the dangerous weather conditions, Deputy Eakle deployed a department-issued marine throw bag. Demonstrating precision and skill under pressure, Deputy Eakle successfully delivered the rescue line to the victim on the first attempt. Working together, the deputies maintained communication and control of the situation, with Deputy Eakle using the rope to pull the individual safely to shore.

Once on land, fire and EMS personnel took over medical care. The patient was treated on scene, assisted to a transport location by fire units, and subsequently transported to Lake Chelan Community Hospital for further evaluation.

The swift, coordinated actions of Deputies Eakle and Seabright were instrumental in saving the victim’s life. Their teamwork, communication, and effective use of specialized equipment reflect the highest standards of public safety service and are a direct embodiment of our agency’s motto: “Of the People, for the People.”

The Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to the responding fire and EMS personnel for their rapid assistance and professionalism. We also thank the medical staff at Lake Chelan Community Hospital for their seamless coordination and continued care, which played a critical role in this successful outcome.

This incident highlights the strength of interagency collaboration and the dedication of first responders committed to protecting and saving lives in our community.
