On Feb. 7, Chelan County deputies conducted a search warrant on a residence in the 200 block of Arden Road in Ardenvoir. The purpose of the search warrant was related to an ongoing investigation by deputies into recurring malicious mischief incidents. Residents of the area had reported that their residences sustained damage due to a neighbor, who has allegedly been shooting a pellet gun at their homes. This had been occurring since 2024.
There are about 38 incidents related to this complaint and an estimated $15,000 in damages. Through a persistent investigation, a search warrant was eventually obtained by deputies and conducted. The search warrant resulted in the arrest of: Matthew Taunton, a 35-year-old male and resident of Ardenvoir.
Seized during the search warrant were eight high-powered, scoped pellet guns in several calibers. Deputies also discovered a “sniper’s hide” that was created by Taunton on his back porch, which was allegedly used to shoot from in the cover of darkness.
Taunton was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center for violations of Malicious Mischief (first and third degrees) and for Harassment and Reckless Endangerment.
Diligent investigation by Chelan County deputies into this situation exhibits a continued dedication to “a community where safety, justice and security are ensured for all through unwavering commitment to service."
