The position includes a state retirement system, with a deferred comp program available. Health insurance package includes Medical, Dental, and county contributions to a personal health savings account. Includes up to 11 paid holidays and additional floating holidays per collective bargaining agreement. Along with monthly accrued vacation and sick leave. 

SUMMARY

Maintains county grounds by performing the following duties at a variety of different facilities. These grounds include, (but not limited to), the Chelan County Courthouse, Law & Justice Building, Annex, Juvenile Detention, Administration Building, 316 Building, Probation, and various buildings and grounds off campus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Have good attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintains landscaping (e.g. lawns, shrubbery, planted areas, fences, etc.) including mowing, grooming border areas and trees, sweeping lots, sidewalks and clearing debris from storm drains and alley ways.
  • Manage and install irrigation systems for proper coverage, inspecting for leaks and making repairs as necessary.
  • Maintaining, repairing and/or scheduling service for all grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Applies or schedules the application of pesticides, traps and/or chemicals in compliance with federal, state, and county requirements.
  • Responds to emergencies and safety concerns to maintain facilities in operational use.
  • Inspects facilities and campus lots for safety and cleanliness, identifies and initiates the necessary maintenance and repairs.
  • Recommend repairs or procedures that are beyond the scope of responsibilities, skill, experience, or time, outlining the work needed and specifications required of an outside contractor.
  • Installing and maintaining campus signage and deploying barricades when needed.
  • Requests equipment, supplies and maintains inventory to ensure stock of required items.
  • Lead and serve as the liaison for special community events
  • Plow & remove snow from walk ways, parking lot, and sidewalks.
  • Be able to work occasional nights & weekends
  • Constructing of various cabinets, walls, signs, and fixtures.
  • Construction, remodeling, painting, ceiling, carpet, glazing, and masonry repair.
  • Maintains carpeting, vinyl floors, walkways, fences, roof patch, sprinkler heads, etc.
  • Repairs various items, systems and/or components (e.g. custodial equipment, safety rails, plumbing fixtures, furniture, toilets, clocks, water systems, lighting fixtures/systems,
  • Moving, assembling and installing furniture.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma
  • 1 year of experience in landscaping, grounds keeping, or maintenance.
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in several areas of maintenance (e.g. plumbing, painting, and carpentry, grounds keeping and custodial.)
  • Successful background investigation

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating equipment used in grounds maintenance, general maintenance, custodial and snow removal, e.g. mowers, blowers, edgers, cultivators, tractors with loaders, plows, sanders, spreaders, carpet extractors, polishers, vacuums, window cleaning poles, lifts, general hand tools. Also preparing and maintaining accurate records.

Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Methods, techniques, materials used in facilities and ground maintenance as well as custodial. The ability read MSDS and follow safety code requirements for Federal, State and County guidelines.

Ability is required to schedule activities and/ or meetings; collect data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions. 

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; and operating with a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other staff may be required to perform the job’s functions.

  • Oversees inmate worker crews while conducting daily operations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Take classes as required in safety, First Aid, and CPR.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move loads in excess of 50 pounds. Must be able to distinguish colors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 5% sitting, 50% walking, and 45% standing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of injury and/or illness. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud while using grounds keeping equipment so hearing and eye protection is required.
