Salary/Benefits:

 PW 05 Steps 2-4 $3,728.77-$4,088.42 9 months per year plus Medical, Dental and Retirement.

Longevity Steps 5-8 $4,281.85-$4,922.09

Off season Base Salary (60 hours base paid)  PW 05 steps 2 $1,290.60, Step 3 $1,351.20, step 4, $1,415.40 for 3 months per year plus continuation of County portion of paid medical and dental.

SUMMARY

This is a year round full-time seasonal position working extended hours during the Ohme season, and reduced hours during the winter. This position is responsible for all grounds keeping and facility maintenance of Ohme Gardens. The Facilities & Maintenance manager position at Ohme Gardens County Park is responsible for the appearance, safety, maintenance, and repairs of all garden property, equipment, plants, trees, garden structures, and irrigation & plumbing systems. This position is the quality control expert for the grounds of Ohme. Must have the ability to work independently, use good time management, work safely, and have good communication skills. This position is on-call during the months the gardens are open to respond to unforeseen issues and may require variable hours including weekends and evenings.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and maintain irrigation system including the irrigation pump and computerized timer to ensure proper operation of the system and adherence to the required watering schedule. Responsible for charging lines in spring, and winterizing is fall.
  • Maintain lawns, create and implement fertilization schedule and pest control measures
  • Review and prioritize infrastructural needs, develop appropriate and effective initiatives to address those needs and recommend to the Garden Director.
  • Serve as quality control expert at the Gardens, providing a high level of attention to all details.
  • Train, supervise, and delegate to seasonal maintenance staff
  • Maintain and repair pool and waterfall operations; maintain and repair tools and equipment as needed.
  • •Maintain nearly 1 mile of trails, over 1000 trees and 14.5 acres
  • Perform routine grounds keeping maintenance
  • Perform routine facilities maintenance
  • Collaborate with Garden Director to plan & evaluate horticultural & landscaping activities.
  • Diagnose plant problems caused by insects, disease, etc.; develop and implement treatment plans as needed including use of insecticide/herbicide control measures.
  • .Occasional Coordinating of event set up and take down.
  • May occasionally cover for seasonal staff in office or during events.
  • Other duties as assigned by Garden Director Ohme Gardens.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

•Strong background in irrigation systems & maintenance

•Ability to work independently, self-initiating and be able time manage and prioritize work

•High quality organizational skills and attention to detail is critical to position.

•Good problem solving skills.

•Working knowledge of garden maintenance practice & procedures

•Strong commitment to maintain high quality standards

•Knowledge of horticulture, botany

•Ability to operate and maintenance tools & equipment used for the garden

•Ability to work in steep terrain and high elevations

•Ability to work in all-season outdoor environment

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; AA Degree in landscape management, horticulture, or similar field. Four to six years of irrigation experience. Two to four years of garden/landscape maintenance experience, or additional experience may substitute for educational requirement.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position trains, delegates work and provides general supervision to seasonal maintenance employees and inmate workers performing work in the gardens.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Including mathematical equations for pesticide/herbicide/fungicide mixing.

 REASONING ABILITY

 Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

•Must have valid WA state driver’s license and a good driving record.

•Washington Public Operator License required.

•Authorization to pick up and supervise inmate workers through the CCRJC is required.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

•This is a hands on position requiring good health, tolerance to, and the ability to work in hot and

cool weather under sometimes strenuous conditions. Ability to transverse 200 foot elevation change with backpack blower and other tools over uneven stone paths daily. Ability to lift up to 50lbs.Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, feel and reach in order to operate maintenance tools & equipment.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS (cont.)

Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in order to maintain grounds & facilities and work in outdoor/indoor setting. Able to be able to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, talk and hear, and taste/smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Basic physical labor is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 Work is performed mostly outdoors in an all-season outdoor environment, work is performed on uneven terrain.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

 This is a regular full-time working long hours during the spring/summer season and reduced hours during the winter months.
