2026 Point in Time Count shows decrease in homelessness from previous year
Results of the 2026 Homeless Point in Time Count, held on Jan. 29 across Chelan and Douglas counties, show decreases over last year in both people living unsheltered and in the number of people living in shelters or temporary housing.
Earl Crowe, who has been with the Chelan County Coroner's Office for 13 years, took the helm of the office on Jan. 1, when he was appointed to finish the term of the retiring coroner. Earl talks about how it's been going! The office will be applying for national accreditation in the next month. (There are 285 standards to meet!) They also get a new home in April. The U.S. Small Business Administration announced the availability of low-interest federal disaster loans to Washington businesses, private nonprofits and residents to offset physical and economic losses from the December 2025 Severe Winter Storms. The deadline to return physical damage applications is April 27. The deadline to return economic injury applications is Nov. 24.
An $8.7 million construction project that will update the aging and failing plumbing in the Law & Justice Building is underway. The project is expected to take up to 12 months.
