Chelan County invites public to comment on transportation needs

What will Chelan County’s transportation system look like in 20 years?

Chelan County officials are putting that vision together now. The Transportation Element, an important piece of the county’s Comprehensive Plan update that will be adopted in June 2017, provides a 20-year vision for the county’s transportation system. Watch for a draft of the Transportation Element to be posted in the coming months on this website. The plans includes how the county will invest through 2037 in the maintenance and upgrading of its roads, bridges and trails.

“We are a county that’s heavily reliant on its roadways and bridges,” said Eric Pierson, the Director/County Engineer of Chelan County Public Works. “Our agricultural-based economy relies on our roads to get its products to port, and thousands of tourists from around the country travel our roads every year. Well-maintained, safe roadways are also vital to our local way of living. So we encourage people to attend the open house to learn more about, and give input into, the future transportation needs of Chelan County.”

The public is invited to send its comments on the Transportation Element to public.works@co.chelan.wa.us. Chelan County Public Works also will join the City of Wenatchee at a joint public hearing from 4 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Wenatchee City Hall. Please attend the hearing to get more information about the Transportation Element. An open house on the plan also was held in November.

Under the Transportation Element, the county’s overall vision is to provide a safe, balanced and efficient multimodal transportation system that serves anticipated growth. Read more about the six key goals that support this overarching vision and guided the evaluation of potential future projects list.
