Chief for a Day is Kelvin Ramos

Kelvin Ramos

This years “Chief for a Day” celebration will be Thursday, April 24th.  The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office has selected 12 year old Kelvin Ramos of Peshastin to be our little “Sheriff.”  Kelvin was born with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and has no use of his legs.  He is just a little guy with a great big heart and smile to go along with it.

He was asked “So Kelvin, what is the first thing you want to do as the new Sheriff?”  In a “matter-of-fact” form, he said, “To help people” , “….and make sure poor people have food!”

So in honor of Kelvin and his family, The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office would like to start a “Food Drive” to make his wish come true.  The “Light House Ministries” of Wenatchee has been contacted and told of our intent and they are excited.  With the remainder of March and most of April, we are hoping to make a big difference in the Wenatchee Valley by granting Kelvin his wish “To help people and make sure poor people have food.”  Our intent is to collect the food by Wednesday, April 23rd and help Kelvin and his family deliver it to the Light House Ministries the following day after the celebration in the park.

Flood Control

On October 29, 2013, the Chelan County Commissioners declared their intent to establish a county wide (including cities) flood control zone district (FCZD) by signing Resolution 2013-083.  A Chelan County Flood Control Zone District (FCZD) would be a special-purpose government fund authorized under Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 86.15 to fund flood-reduction projects and programs in Chelan County.  Click here for more information.

ORV/ATV's on County Roads

On October 15, 2013 the Board of County Commissioners passed the resolution (2013-82) allowing ATVs/ORVs on all county roads posted 35mph or less (unless a road has been exempted by the Board of County Commissioners – presently Downey Rd. falls into that category).
