The board will be holding budget workshops in November to continue working toward a final budget, which must be passed before Dec. 31. The preliminary budget reflects 2024 expenditures among the county’s 22 departments in the general fund to be $56.9 million. At this time, 2024 revenues are projected to be $52.2 million.
In comparison, this year the county is operating on a $51.1 million budget.
The board must pass a balanced budget for the new year. Among the decisions to be made in the upcoming budget workshops is what expenditures can be cut and whether additional revenues are projected.
Budget hearings with the county’s elected officials and department directors were held in early October. Elected officials and department directors presented their budgets as well as their plans for next year.
The next steps in the 2024 budget process include the following:
Additional BOCC budget workshops are scheduled in November. Those workshops are included in the commissioners’ weekly agenda, which is available online.
The 2024 budget hearing is scheduled for Dec. 11. The hearing is an opportunity for the public to comment on the proposed final budget. The public will be able to comment in person at the meeting or online via Zoom.
Keep your eye on the commissioners weekly agenda if dates should change.
