Community Development Now Open by Appointment Only

First, a message from Community Development Director, Jim Brown:                                                

In an effort to protect the safety of both our customers and our employees, and pursuant to the Governor’s order on Monday, March 23rd, and remained  closed to the public until further July 15, 2020.  We still, processing building and land use permits/applications by mail during this time of shutdown.  For now, it remains our preferred method of submission until COVID restrictions are lifted.  Please submit general inquiries via email to All visits in-office will take place by appointment only. 

We are currently taking building inspection requests. You can schedule building inspections by calling the inspection line at 509-667-6635.  

Please know we value the importance and immense contribution of our construction community and those trying to plan for home and business projects that require our services. Therefore, to provide more services while maintaining strict compliance with the orders of the Washington State Governor, and State and County Health rules, we are beginning to provide a limited number of by-appointment-only visits in-office at Community Development (only one person per visit) to this office for PLANNING and BUILDING permitting matters.  “Drop-ins” will be turned away, without exception!  If you need to simply drop something off it is only by appointment or, better, by mail.

PRE-APPLICATION meetings will only be conducted electronically by Zoom web-based meeting, or by phone.  Please contact the Planner On-call to arrange for those meetings, (509) 667-6224.

In order to maintain compliance with state regulations regarding limiting COVID-19 spread, we must have those arriving comply with the following requirements:

First, self-assess by these health questions—and do NOT make an appointment if the you can answer, “YES” to any of the following questions. In the last 14 days have you, or anyone in your household had any of these symptoms that are NOT attributable to another condition, other than COVID?

  • Cough?      

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?  

  • Or at least two of these symptoms

  • Fever (100.4 degrees, or more)?  

  • Chills?             

  • Muscle pain?  

  • Headache?    

  • Sore throat?  

  • New loss of taste or smell?   

If you answer “YES” to any if these above related questions - STOP - and continue to interact with the department by US Mail, phone, or E-mail only.

All visits are limited to ONE person per appointment and YOU MUST WEAR A FACE COVERING - cloth mask before coming in.
