Chelan County Fire Hazard Designation - July 19, 2021

Chelan County commissioners on Sept. 14 lowered the fire hazard designation to "high" in the Mountain Zone. The fire hazard level remains at "very high" in the county's Valley Zone.

The moving of the designation from "very high" to "high" in the Mountain Zone comes at the recommendation of the local Fire Advisory Board, a group consisting of the county fire marshal, local fire chiefs, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, and state and federal land management agencies. The advisory board based its decision on the recent weather conditions, which have included cooler temperatures and an increase in moisture.

The difference between the high and very high designations is that campfires are allowed in designated campgrounds in areas of "high" designation.
