October 1, 2010

Events Sponsored by Chelan County Solid Waste

Attention Small Business Owners!
Hazardous Waste Disposal for Small Quantity Generators. This hazardous waste event will no longer accept computers, monitors, televisions, printers and other devices from businesses (see below for more information).

If you own a business in Chelan County where hazardous waste has been generated, you may qualify to participate in the Chelan County Hazardous Waste Collection event. The following must apply before registering :

  • Generate up to 220 pounds of dangerous waste, or up to 2.2 pounds of certain pesticides or poisons each month or per batch.
  • Accumulate up to 2,200 pounds of dangerous waste, or 2.2 pounds of certain pesticides or poisons, at your site before sending the waste off-site for proper disposal or recycling.
  • Any Amount of Cathode Ray Tubes pre-qualifies.

If your business is interested in learning more about disposing waste at the Chelan County Hazardous Waste Collection event, in the first weekend of October, please contact the Chelan County Public Works office at (509) 667-6415, and ask about the Small Quantity Generator Program.

If you qualify as a Small Quantity Generator, you may want to fill out a SQG Receipt and Certification form and return it to our contractor. Once they know the type and amount of waste you want to dispose of, our Contractor, will give you a cost for the disposal. You are under no obligation to dispose of your waste through this program. Costs for specific wastes vary from year to year, depending on the contractor and the type and amount of waste. Though generally, this program will allow you to reduce your hazardous waste disposal costs significantly by tying in with the County event and contract.

Scheduled event for year 2010, is Friday October 1st Businesses must be registered at least 2 weeks prior to the event. Waste not pre-registered will not be accepted. Businesses may wish to call Chelan County Public Works and get on a mailing list for the next event.
