Public Records

Chelan County’s public records policy is set out in Chapter 1.376 of the Chelan County Code, “Public Records Procedures”. The link to the Chelan County Code is: http://www.codepublishing.com/wa/chelancounty.html

The purpose of Chapter 1.376 of the Chelan County Code is to provide rules by which the county implements the provisions of the Public Records Act for the county’s public records. This policy does not apply to public records of the state of Washington, such as the records of the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the Department of Licensing (DOL) and the Department of Corrections (DOC), that may be available to the county’s employees by virtue of digital connectivity.

Public records may be inspected and/or copies may be obtained under the following procedures:

1. A request for public records shall be directed to the Public Records Officer. Use of the “Public Records Request” form is strongly recommended and the form can be found linked to this page.

2. A request for public records shall be made in writing and include the following information:

(A) The requester’s name, mailing address, and telephone number;

(B) The date of the request;

(C) A clear indication that the document is a “Public Records Request”:

(D) Whether the request is to inspect the public records or for copies of public records, or both;

(E) A clear description of the public records requested for inspection and/or copying and the office or department having custody of the public records;

(F) If the request is for a list of individuals, a statement that the list will not be use for commercial purposes or that the requester is authorized or directed by law to obtain the list of individuals for commercial purposes, with specific reference to such law; and
(G) Whether the request is for printed or digital copies of the public record.

3. Chelan County has established a policy for “Copying and delivery fees” for public records requests at Section 1.376.090 of the county code.
