Chelan County Cleanup Days, (White Goods and Scrap Metal Recycling)
April 4, 2009.

Events Sponsored by Chelan County Solid Waste

Chelan, Entiat and Malaga area residents have an additional Saturday to participate on March 28, 2009.

In 2008 this event collected over 400 tons of scrap metal, over 300 refrigerators and numerous car bodies.

This is an annual event. If you miss it on March/April, 2009, keep it in mind for the Spring 2010 event.

Clean up sites listed below will accept specific waste items:

*Chelan County is coordinating collection events for unwanted appliances and scrap metal. Sites and dates are as follows:

Wenatchee Lincoln Park:
One day only.
Saturday,April 4, 2009; 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.

  • Refrigeration units, automobiles, and orchard sprayers are not accepted in Wenatchee , must be taken to the Dryden Transfer Station or Malaga Sites.
  • See note below about purging fees for appliances that contain or once contained freon.

Dryden Transfer/Garbage Station:
One day only. Saturday, April 4, 2009; 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Refrigeration units, automobiles, and orchard sprayers are accepted here.

Entiat's Gravel Yard:
Saturday March 8 and April 4, 2009; 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.; at the City's Gravel Yard; Contact Entiat City Hall. Refrigeration units and orchard sprayers are accepted. Automobiles are not accepted.

Chelan, (Rowe's Towing):
Saturday March 8 and April 4, 2009; 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Automobiles properly prepared and refrigeration units are accepted. Orchard sprayers are also accepted.

Malaga, on W. Malaga Rd. behind Malaga Fire Station:
Saturday March 8 and April 4, 2009; 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Refrigeration units, orchard sprayers and automobiles are accepted.

Bring:

  • Large appliances such as hot water tanks and stoves, 6 foot pipe lengths or less, refrigerators, freezers, air-conditions at most sites (see below for required purging fees for units that once contained freon) , microwaves, dryers, steel bath tubs, aluminum siding, bikes, lawnmowers, and wheel rims.
  • See specific sites for whether automobiles, orchard sprayers, and refrigeration units are accepted (*vehicles and trailers must have titles and have fluids and tires removed).

Don't Bring:

  • Fencing, wire, cable, televisions, computers, tires, pesticide/fuel or pressurized tanks, propane tanks, sprayers, mattresses, gas cylinders, light ballast, non-aluminum canopies/campers, travel trailers, enclosed barrels & tanks, plastics, or garbage.
  • This list is not all-inclusive. We reserve the right to reject any items

* Motorized items such as vehicles, trailers, and motorbikes must have a title . Contact the Sheriff's Office for lost titles at 667-6851. Motorized units must have fluids and tires removed . If orchard sprayers are accepted; please rinse and prepare to remove tires.

There will be a $20.00 purging fee for any appliances that contain, or once contained freon. For out-of-County residents, the purging fee is $22.00. All other metal is free for disposal. All hazardous waste fluids must be removed from automotive items, including engines and transmission cases.

Tires and batteries can be taken to Discount Tire in Wenatchee and Les Schwab only in Chelan and T.D.S. in Wenatchee. Fees vary by style; $2.00-$3.00 is charged for passenger tires and an additional $2.00 - $4.00 for tires on rims.

This list is not all-inclusive, and we reserve the right to reject any or all items in a load.

Other Wenatchee Area Cleanup Activities

During the week of the White Goods Metal Recycling Event, the Wenatchee Housing Authority has assisted those living in the City that are physically unable and need financial assistance in recycling metal items. Those interested should call the Wenatchee Housing Authority prior to the collection days listed in local publications, at 663-7421.

Fall Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Household hazardous wastes will only be accepted by the County at the annual event in the fall (first Saturday in October every year), October 3, 2009 at the following locations:

Chelan County Shop
210 Easy Street, Wenatchee
8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Chelan City Fire Station No. 7
323 E. Wapato, Chelan
2:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Peshastin Elementary School parking lot
Peshastin
8:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Entiat Fire Station
Entiat River Road, Entiat
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
