Water Quantity/In Stream Flows Subcommittee
Water Quantity:
The following steps will be taken to assess water supply and use in the Wenatchee Watershed:
- Prepare a list of studies, plans, and assessments already completed in the watershed:
- Identify data gaps within existing information
- Determine currency of information
- Update if needed
- Examine surface and ground water present in management area (commonly referred to as the "water balance".
- Investigate water represented by claims in the water rights registry, use permits, certificated rights, existing minimum in stream flow rules, federally reserved rights, and any other rights to water.
- Estimate amount s surface and ground water currently in use.
- Evaluate climate pattern studies.
- Estimate amount of water needed for future use.
- Identify locations where aquifers are known to recharge surface bodies of water and locations that provide aquifer recharge.
- Estimate amount of surface and ground water available for in stream and future out-of-stream uses (commonly referred to as "water budget").
In stream Flows:
The following general approach will be taken by the Planning Unit to investigate in stream flows:
1. Identify the existing, legally established in stream flows and examine the relationship between out-of-stream and in stream use.
- Prepare a list of studies, plans, and assessments already completed in the watershed.
- Identify data gaps within existing information.
- Determine currency of information.
- Update if needed.
- Evaluate methods used to establish existing in stream flows.
- Prepare a list of needed assessments.
- Prepare a stream flow data summary and hydrograph synthesis.
- Evaluate the relationship between in stream flow and land use.
- Evaluate the relationship between in stream flow and habitat.
- Investigate optimal in stream flow conditions for competing watershed interests throughout the year.
2. Identify alternative flow scenarios that address issues raised above.
